Silver Birch Outdoor Nursery is an exciting opportunity for our children in Cowal to experience outdoor learning and play in a woodland environment, set in beautiful Hunter’s Quay with stunning views over the Firth of Clyde.

One of the unique features of the outdoor setting is the beautiful Hobbit House set nestled in the trees. Silver Birch has a Cosy Den – a large shelter – which houses a wood burning stove and an area for all children to have comfort and eat lunch. The nursery has four environmentally friendly composting toilets. 

At Silver Birch Outdoor nursery we provide high quality Early Learning and Childcare in a safe, secure outdoor environment where the children will be supported to explore, play and investigate by experienced and enthusiastic practitioners in our beautiful woodland area. The children have named and developed the different areas of the site. The different areas  offer curious play and explorations and staff are flexible responsive to children’s ideas. At Silver Birch we understand that every child and their family are unique, with their own interests and abilities and are a vital part of our community. Our neighbours, families and the community are very much part of the life at Silver Birch.

Our outdoor play based curriculum follows the Curriculum for Excellence’s holistic approach to learning. Weekly we share quality individual observations about your child’s adventures detailing their skills, voice and learning. We share the children’s adventure reports detailing developmental milestones, numeracy and literacy progress twice a year with families.

At Silver Birch we do not follow indoor nursery routines or rituals as the nursery experience is very different and unique and tailored to our children and their families needs. We explore informal opportunities to meet with parents and termly offer a drop-in hour to chat with individual key workers instead of parents evenings. Graduations celebrations are unique at Silver Birch and any trips are child led, placing emphasis on the children and the experience.
